Scaffad is winning awards for its supersite facade graphics

Scaffad established in 2007, has evolved into a dynamic and innovative signage brand, dedicated to transforming Australia's construction sites, urban landscapes, and public spaces into vibrant, cohesive and artistic communities through tailor-made advertising and signage solutions.

Helping them achieve their vision is their Roland DG SOLJET EJ-640 printer and fast-drying EJ Inks delivered in bulk 1-litre CMYK cartridges that allow continuous printing, even while their ink cartridges are being swapped.

This year, one of Scaffad’s magnificent graphic installations has caught the attention of millions of Sydneysiders, commuters and tourists and is already winning them multiple Awards. Exemplifying the size and scale of Scaffad’s productions, the 2,700+ Sqm supersite façade graphics (each measuring approximately 30m wide and 50m high) were the culmination of 1,000+ hours of Artwork, 400+ hours of Printing and 600+ hours of Installation.

The core mission of their project was to celebrate iconic Australian sportswomen while infusing Sydney with an electrifying surge of excitement in anticipation of the Adidas Women's World Cup taking place in Australia and New Zealand in 2023. The project's outcome was nothing short of remarkable.

From a technical standpoint, the project's uniqueness necessitated innovative solutions. Over the course of the project, more than 100 print samples were tested, exploring various material weights, thicknesses, finishes, and printing methods. The challenge was to create a solution that was vibrant enough to be visible from all angles within the city, while preserving the natural light, view, and atmosphere inside the buildings.

Despite having embarked on the development application planning phase two months prior, the real challenge came when Scaffad had a mere 20 days to produce and install the finished artworks, starting from the final approval of the development application and the submission of the client's finished artwork, all the way to the World Cup kick-off.

Needless to say, the pressure was immense but was executed seamlessly and Scaffad’s visionary ideas, innovative techniques, reliable equipment and ‘commitment to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible’ have earned them several awards since; Gold in the Sydney Design Awards for Advertising – Outdoor, Retail and POS, and Marketing – Branded Experience. Silver in the Sydney Design Awards for Graphic Design – Environmental. Winner – Big Awards – Case Study of the Year. These Awards are as impressive as the size and scale of the project itself.

Upon completion, Scaffad set a new benchmark for how projects of this nature can come to life, leaving an enduring impact on the international signage industry. Beyond its technical achievements, the project had a profound impact on community spirit, generated widespread enthusiasm for the Women’s World Cup and sent a resounding message that women's sports are a permanent and growing part of the sporting landscape.
